Vanilistics Vantics of Conschesterry

A pack that started as a warmer, friendlier version of stock Minecraft, then quietly turned into a fully-voiced fantasy world with its own factions, lore art, and a sound library covering every mob in the game.

Every release, in order

Ten files that tell a story of a project discovering what it wanted to be.

ERA 1 Vanilistics 1.0 Warm · Familiar · Experimental

The starting point. A faithful, warm-neutral take on vanilla Minecraft: brown-gold leaning, medium contrast, softened shadows. The first custom shield and banner art shows up here, an early sign of the layered-detail habit that would define the whole project.

Baseline release. First CTM pass on glass + planks, first CIT pass on elytras and buckets. One naming typo baked in since day one: ctm/planks/crimsone/.
ERA 1 Vanilistics 2.0 Safe · Polished · Warm

A cleanup release. Same warm vanilla mood as 1.0, just tidier: visual noise reduced, the shield base redesigned, a credits file added to thank early contributors.

Total count drops slightly: ~101 item textures folded into the CIT system instead of flat overrides. Particle textures (+92) and armor layer variants (15 to 24) both grow.
ERA 2 Vanilistics 3.0 Mature · Atmospheric · Earthy

The first real personality shift. Woods and terrain get darker and more atmospheric, footsteps gain their own sound, and biome transitions start blending instead of cutting hard. Rustic fantasy beginning to take hold.

Headline: a ~19-folder zsmalloverlays CTM system for biome-edge blending. BannerAdditions mod support dropped. Entity textures fall from 441 to 355 as some custom mob art is retired in favour of vanilla.
ERA 3 Vanilistics 4.0 Bold · Ambitious · Cinematic

This is where the project becomes its own thing. The palette turns cinematic and medieval: lower saturation, wider tonal range, glowing detail on weapons and armor. A custom RPG-style gear system appears for the first time, alongside a hidden personal lore folder hinting at the world the pack would eventually be named after.

Two brand-new systems in one release: an_apocalips_personal_story_and_stuff lore CIT folder, and new_defult_pro_max_+_+_ultra covering all 39 enchanted-book icons. MCPatcher legacy support added.
ERA 3 Vanilistics 5.0 Rich · Detailed · Cohesive

A confidence pass on the big 4.0 leap. The new medieval gear reads more cohesively across blocks, items, and entities. Sky effects get simplified for clarity, and a community contributor's armor and item set joins the pack for the first time.

The quietest release in the project: near-zero net file change, but the pack already feels complete within its identity. A placeholder for content that will come in the rename.

ERA 4 Vantics of Conschesterry Fantasy · Narrative · Worldbuilt

The rename. Lore folders are reorganised, concept art lands at the pack root, and the project's name finally matches what it actually is: a setting with its own world, not just a texture improvement.

The definitive version. Visually, the pack had already been complete since the Armor Update: Finale exists to give it a voice. Every mob in the game gets a proper sound, turning Vantics of Conschesterry from a texture pack into a full audiovisual world.

For people who want to know how it's built

Under the hood

File-level findings that don't fit neatly into a changelog, but explain a lot about how this pack actually works.

Naming, warts and all

snake_case is standard almost everywhere: the same convention vanilla Minecraft uses. A few exceptions survived every redesign:

  • optifine/ctm/planks/crimsone/: misspelled "crimson," baked in since v1.0, never corrected.
  • new_defult_pro_max_+_+_ultra: v4.0's CIT mega-folder, typo and all, later cleaned to new_default+ at the Vantics rename.
  • Caracter Art.png: the lore concept art folder's own typo.
  • textures/entity/cape/dannyBstyle_cape.png: the one camelCase file in the entire pack.
  • optifine/ctm/zsmalloverlays/pcoarse dirt/: one of the only folder names with a space in it.
The alphabet trick

The zsmalloverlays/ system holds biome-transition overlay textures in folders deliberately prefixed with letters out of order: odirt, pcoarse dirt, qpodzol, rclay, smycelium, tgrass_overlay, tsnow_grass, ysnow, zhay.

OptiFine processes CTM folders alphabetically, so the prefixes are a manual stacking order: forcing snow to render over grass, sand over dirt in the correct sequence at biome edges. It's an unusual technique for a solo project, and it works.

What never changed

4,795 files are byte-identical from Vanilistics 1.0 all the way to the Finale, nine releases and at least one full identity change later. They include every blockstate file, the entire 241-file CTM variant library, and most base block textures.

The bones of the pack were right on day one. Almost everything that changed was added around them, not instead of them.
